When Jak first interrupts the death sequence, Jak is able to traverse on death planes and continue moving within the world. However, the game believes Jak is dead, which causes the following side effects:
* Dismounting the JET-Board in a death plane on the frame Jak should die
* Taking damage on a certain frame during the Restart Mission sequence
* Swimming up through a plane of Dark Eco (diving into the side of a Dark Eco pool)
* Spin kicking and shooting ([[Wastelander Move]]) in lava on the same frame you should take damage

To exit the invulnerability glitch:
* Bonk into a wall
* Clip into an enemy character model as it is attacking
* Use the warp gate
* Die in the void
* Restarting a mission from the pause menu
* Loading a save file
* Dying from too much fall damage

Using the JET-Board in the Weapons Factory slime to activate Invulnerability Glitch.

Invulnerability glitch, sometimes called invuln, is a bug that allows Jak to stay alive while in a dead/dying state. The glitch is primarily used in the Any% and Gunless categories to assist with boss fights and make specific skips possible.

Technical

The invulnerability glitch has two different states: State 1 and State 2. More commonly referred to as Invuln 1 and Invuln 2. To enter State 2, Jak must first enter State 1 and then take fall damage.

There are a few known ways to enter State 1 invulnerability:

  • Dismounting the JET-Board in a death plane on the frame Jak should die
  • Taking damage on a certain frame during the Restart Mission sequence
  • Swimming up through a plane of Dark Eco (diving into the side of a Dark Eco pool)
  • Spin kicking and shooting (Wastelander Move) in lava on the same frame you should take damage

To exit the invulnerability glitch:

  • Bonk into a wall
  • Clip into an enemy character model as it is attacking
  • Use the warp gate
  • Die in the void
  • Restarting a mission from the pause menu
  • Loading a save file
  • Dying from too much fall damage

Invuln 1

  • Enemies will no longer target Jak.
  • Jak can't pick up ammunition, skull gems, eco, or precursor orbs.
  • Jak can't use vehicles, weapons, Dark Jak, or the JET-Board.
  • Jak can't speak to non-playable characters or side mission holographic terminals.
  • Jak can't ledge grab.
  • Jak can walk on all death planes except the void.

Invuln 2

To achieve the second state of invulnerability, Jak needs to take fall damage. Or splat as most people call it. The splat animation that occurs when taking fall damage acts as a check that lets the game know that Jak is still alive. After the splat, all of the side effects of Invuln 1 will be negated except the main invulnerability effect.

Discovery

The JET-Board method of entering invulnerability State 1 was discovered by Djtomjak73 on September 11, 2015.

OutrageousJosh discovered a consistent way to enter State 1 by taking damage on an exploding zoomer during the Restart Mission sequence.
